USB Configurations We offer 4 configurations mounted on 2, 4, 8, and 16GB USB flash memory keys. All USBs come pre-installed with the latest version of FaunOS. To see features and package highlights click here. FAT Partition
Besides including the latest version of FaunOS on a dedicated partition, all these USB configurations also come with a FAT partition. This FAT partition provides a convenient conduit for sharing data with Windows users through the USB. Files stored on this partition are accessible from both FaunOS and Windows. So, for example, in FaunOS, you can save photos from your digital camera on the FAT partition and later share these photos with a Windows user by plugging your FaunOS USB into their computer.
Swap Partition The 4GB and above USBs come with a swap partition. FaunOS detects this partition and uses it in the event the hardware is running out of volatile memory (RAM). Product Details
FaunOS Shadow 2G comes with a 250MB FAT partition which is visible to a PC while running Windows, and over 700MBs to spare for installing software and otherwise customizing the system to your needs. FaunOS Shadow 4G comes with a 500MB FAT partition, about 1.5GB to spare for customizations, software updates and installs, and a 1GB swap partition. FaunOS Shadow 8G comes with a 3.5GB FAT partition, about 2GB to spare for customizations, software updates and installs, and a 1GB swap partition. FaunOS Shadow 16G comes with a 11GB FAT partition, about 2GB to spare for customizations, software updates and installs, and a 1.5GB swap partition. Optional Bootstrap CD
All of the above USBs come with an optional bootstrap CD. You use the CD in case - The target machine you are going to run on does not support booting from USB (e.g. it is either locked down, or otherwise not supported with the BIOS).
- You don't wish to enter the target machine's BIOS setup or can't specify the necessary boot device (USB drive) for that PC.
Note: We're seeing more and more newer PCs supporting booting from the USB drive straight out of the box. So going forward, you should expect to have less and less use for this bootstrap. The situation is reminiscent of the days when CD drives had first come onto the scene and many OEMs had not set up the default device boot order in such a way that would to allow booting from CD.
